What do we do?

We've got three versions to that answer

"I've got time and like to read version"

Noam Chomsky, the most quoted intellect on the planet, laid down his book that the main problem with the media is access, and our lack of it. When newspapers were being set up in the 1900's the cost of acquiring a printing press rose so sharply in the face of competition that new newspapers could not be started up. The ones that got in early became totally dominant and so it has remained until today. Since that time our access to the global media has remained almost none existent; but we have an idea thats about to change all that.

How much would it cost us to buy or rent a printing press to print video CD's with OUR content on it (in DivX or VCD format) to distribute around the world? A centrally organised start up company with the best intentions has only the worst prospects at delivering on this mammoth task, but the Internet is not a centrally organised start up company. You're reading this because you stumbledupon us, you saw us on digg, reddit, fark, newsvine, netscape, slashdot, del.icio.us, google etc etc etc. The list goes on, but the point is, the users of these services (us included) are preaching to the converted. The mainstream media bypass of socially driven news only serves the people who understand how to use them, which is still a nowhere near the critical mass needed to be a dominant media force.

Social news aggregation is a private club, between us we edit, discuss, promote, produce and destroy content, but that process should have an end product which is distributed on a mass scale around the globe; in the current state of affairs we don't have that and so our club remains organised but its power neutered. What if we could package up the best of the web into a format that the whole world can understand and experience; in a VCD format to watch on a DVD player.  Each month we will be releasing a VCD via bittorrent of the most progressive thoughts, the most controversial ideas, the most subverted news and freshest entertainment. You've got a CD burner, as have I, as have the twenty or thirty thousand other visitors we have here. If we each print of 10, 20 or as many as we dare, label them with a recognisable brand and then leave these wonderful gems of information graffiti all over our beautiful cities, people will find them, discuss them and watch them as though they're in a real life episode of Lost. Leave them in cereal boxes, on bus seats, at train stations, in the library, in books, in DVD cases, anywhere which will make the person lucky enough to find it feel like they just won a ticket to Willy Wonkas Chocolate Factory!

The content of the CD's will be decided by people here at infograffiti; documentaries and information that we feel needs more merrit and more exposure. Whats the point of us editing unless we produce a product? Do we want to remain a private club or do we want to get our message out? Noam Chomskys main critic of the Media is obsolete because between us we own the biggest printing press the world has ever seen, we just need to kickstart it into action. Interested?

"I've got 2 minutes, tell me the basics version"

Infograffiti is the latest idea in information distribution and our basic aim is to distribute CD's with forward thinking videos on it gained from the many social networking sites across the web. We believe that the information which we organise as a social news community is too difficult to access for most people, and we feel that by distributing a CD each month with documentaries and other video content on it we can get the internet's message out to more. The hurdle is printing enough CD's to do it, a problem which has faced every new media venture since new media ventures began; printing presses are expensive.

We know that the social news community is large, very large, it covers most major cities in the world. Crucially most people have a CD burner, meaning that the social news community is the biggest printing press the world has ever seen, it just hasn't ticked into action yet. Infograffiti is the process of downloading a VCD via bittorrent, the content of which will be decided by infograffiti users - documentaries and ideas to inspire the mind. You then burn as many copies of the CD as you dare, insert a recognisable logo and then spend an evening leaving the CD's on park benches, in lifts, in coffee shops, libraries and bus seats for people to find. This opens people up to a whole new world of information which they had not had any real scalable access to before, where you and I are privilaged in our ability to edit and experience the web, most people don't know where to start and don't have the capacity to seek out these gems of information.

We think that this could grow and grow until the internet becomes a formidable force to be reckoned with as we reach more and more people with the internets forward thinking message. When we get to a critica mass, the mainstream media will have to sit up and take notice. Interested?

"You've got 30 seconds or I'm gone"

  • Infograffiti is a new information distribution service intending on eventually rivaling the mainstream press; we need your help.
  • We want to distribute internet documentaries and information via a CD format that will play on DVD players or PC's.
  • Access to a printing press and the large costs involved is what has stopped forward thinking progressive messages from getting out before.
  • As much as you may think that everyone now knows the things you know and has seen the things you've seen, they haven't. You just know how to find these things whilst everyone else is watching Americon Idol.

  • Social network and social news site users are forward thinkers (in general) and most of them have CD burners.
  • Between us then we have the biggest printing press the world has ever seen and infograffiti wants to organise it.
  • You download our VCD via bittorrent burn it to CD, label it with a logo and then distribute it around our wonderful cities.
  • The CD contains all the best documenataries, virals, and information from the web, chosen by infograffiti users. It works in both DVD players and PC's.
  • Place it on park benches, in lifts, in coffee shops, on bus seats and in libraries for our lovely fellow citizens to discover
  • As we grow we end up having almost every city in the world covered by an infograffiti scene, and finally the internet's message gets out to a much wider audience
  • We predict exponential growth and we want you on board to help us increase our output.
  • You can also help by bumping us up on social networking sits, del.icio.us, stumble, reddit, digg, etc etc

What we do in 30 seconds

Not everyone can find the most inspiring and progressive videos available on the internet. Infograffiti users vote on video they think more people need to see, then each month a VCD is released with those videos on. Our users download it, burn it as many times as they can, label them in an interesting fashion, then leave them around the city for people to find. We're a printing press growing in output with every new user we get. Interested?
